First settled in the late 19th century by skilled Italian artisans, Little Italy (also known as Murray Hill) has retained much of its Old World charm and tight-knit sense of community. Just across the Cuyahoga River and west of downtown, Ohio City is home to the West Side Market. Historic Tremont has a reputation as one of Cleveland's hidden hotspots for entertainment, art and dining. A blue collar neighborhood with a rich cultural heritage, Tremont's newest residents are urban professionals and artists. University Circle, four miles east of Downtown Cleveland in a scenic park-like setting, is the cultural center of the city. It is home to more cultural and performing arts institutions within one square mile than anywhere else in the country. Museums include the highly acclaimed Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, The Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Western Reserve Historical Society. The magnificent Severance Hall is the winter home of the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra.
With a music club, street festivals and ethnic restaurants, Coventry Village in Cleveland Heights on Cleveland’s near east side retains some of the counterculture atmosphere that made it a magnet for the area's bohemians in the 1960s and ‘70s. Cool and eclectic shopping options ranging from the vintage toys of Big Fun to offbeat book stores, round out this hip ‘hood.
